Method:
|
1. Dress hook, bead head and/or lead wire can be added for weight. 2. Tie in two white rubber legs for the tail, figure 8 to secure and glue in place to keep the tail seperated. 3. Tie in colored chenille attached to far side of hook and 6 inches of Black chenille attached to the near side of hook. Secure, whip finish and cut your thread. 4. Here's the hard part to explian; Turn your fly so it's facing you(eye to eye). Tie an overhand knot with the differnt color pieces of chenille. When starting this knot, alway keep the lighter color of chenille in front of the dark piece. Before pulling the knot up tight, separate the knot over the eye of the hook keeping the light below and the dark on top. secure each knot over the shank. Continue 5 to 7 knots until you reach the reach the half way spot of the hook shank. Turn your fly back so you're viewing for the side again. Then tie in your thread again and tie off the ends of chenille. 5. Tie in 2 or 3 scrape black chenille 3 inches in length. This will later get folded over to create the wing case. 6. Tie in one large wet fly hackle the appropriate for the size of the hook. 7. For the thorax tie in a 4 inch piece of black chenille. Wind in up to just short of bead head (or eye if you didn"t use a bead). Then tie off the chenille and then wind in your hackle about 4 to 6 turns and tie it off. 8. Now fold over the 3 inch section of black chenille to form the wing case and tie it off. 9. Antenna: Fold a piece of white rubber leg material ( about 4 inches long) and tie the doubled piece in just behind the eye of the hook. You should have a small loop of rubber just behind the eye. This will prevent you from losing an antenna. Try two keep the antenna split on each side of the hook 10. Whip finish and you have a killer stonefly imitation.
